Moving Mom into Memory Care
Our family has made a difficult decision to move our sweet mom into a Memory Care community. She doesn’t know it yet. When should we tell her?
It is a hard, but often the best, decision to move a loved one into Memory Care when they are no longer safe at home. To avoid anticipation anxiety, I would recommend not telling her too far in advance. Moving anticipation anxiety can cause nervousness and even extreme negative feelings or behaviors in someone with dementia. Depending on her level of cognition & understanding, this may not be something you should even try to discuss with her at all. The community she is moving to will discuss this with you & assist your family in making the transition as smooth as possible for all of you.
